New Year Skincare Resolutions

1) Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

2) Cleanse & exfoliate properly

3) Wear sunscreen every day of the year

The new year is a great time to roll out a new skincare regime.  If you put the effort in now, when sensitive skin is at its most vulnerable, you will continue to see benefits throughout the year in clear, healthy, glowing skin.  And, as we at Elave Skincare know, if your skin looks good, you feel good!

No doubt 2023 will bring with it an array of skincare fads and crazes – not all of which will actually be that helpful to your skin.  As sensitive skincare experts since 1934, specialising in delicate Irish skin, we at Elave like to keep it simple, so here are 3 Top Tips for the new year skincare.

Elave Sensitive Skin Hydrating Essentials are designed to be used together to cleanse, repair and surge moisture into the skin, leaving your skin cleansed, hydrated and deeply moisturised

1) Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

Rehydration is key to keeping dry sensitive skin conditions under control, particularly for those who suffer from eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.  Minimise moisture loss from the dermis and support your natural skin oils by using body and facial moisturisers, morning and evening.

If you have particularly dry skin, apply as often as required throughout the day.  You might prefer a lighter moisturiser first thing in the morning and a heavier, oilier moisturiser at night. Apply on damp skin and 20 minutes before going to bed, to allow time for absorption.

Elave Skin Balancing Moisturiser with naturally derived prebiotics and antimicrobial Manuka Honey UMF 10+ regulates the skin balance to restore a healthier skin barrier. Antioxidant vitamins B5 and E combined with natural glycerin and hyaluronic acid boost the skin’s hydration levels, smoothing the appearance of fine lines and imperfections.

Elave Intense Moisture Surge with fractionated coconut oil and shea butter which is rich in vitamin E and natural glycerin surge moisture into facial skin for active hydration and repair, leaving even dry, sensitive skin feeling soft and rejuvenated.

Elave Sensitive Body Lotion with camomile extract is a clinically proven, light, emollient rich moisturising lotion which is quickly absorbed to promote healthy, soft skin all over.

Elave Sensitive Intensive Cream is a rich treatment cream formulated to protect the skin’s natural barrier and reduce flare-ups in dry, itchy, reactive, eczema and dermatitis prone skin. Contains white soft paraffin and fractionated coconut oil.

2) Cleanse & exfoliate properly

Cleansing is incredibly important as it rids the skin of all the excess dirt, makeup and impurities you've absorbed throughout the day. Cleansing helps to keep your skin clear, healthy and radiant. Without it, your dermis will be more prone to breakouts, dehydration, and premature aging.

Gentle exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells by breaking the bonds that glue them together, allowing new cells to surface and giving your skin an instant boost. It also whisks away any dirt and debris deep within your pores that your cleanser may have missed.

Elave Skin Balancing Cleansing Gel is a unique blend of natural foaming cleansers with antimicrobial Manuka Honey UMF 10+ for a deep cleansing treatment. A natural source of amino acids and natural humectants, this gel contains vitamin E and calming camomile to refresh, hydrate and soften the skin.

Elave Rejuvenating Cleansing Treatmentcontains hydrating skin cleansers combined with 12% glycolic acid arginine complex to gently exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. Glycolic acid actively promotes cellular regeneration and stimulates collagen synthesis to reveal younger, brighter skin.

3) Wear sunscreen every day of the year

UV damage is the No1 cause of photoaging.  Around 90% of the fine lines and wrinkles on your face, as well as the brown spots and sagging skin which develop on your body, result from damaging UVA and UVB rays in natural sunlight.

If you want your skin – particularly your facial skin - to stay as young-looking as possible for as long as possible, wear a good sunscreen under your makeup or on clean skin every day. Remember that UV rays can still penetrate the clouds, even in the depths of winter.

Elave Daily Skin Defence SPF45 is a unique combination of oil-free emollients to hydrate the skin, together with high UVA and UVB protection. The invisible zinc formula enriched with vitamins B5 and E is absorbed quickly to protect and help  repair environmental skin damage.

Elave Sun offers a whole range of body sunscreens for use between March and October, when the sun is at its highest and most damaging.  These sunscreens offer high, broad spectrum protection while leaving out ingredients which could cause reactions like itching or rashes on dry, sensitive skin.

Elave Skincare are committed to sustainable production with formulations that are 100% PETA Cruelty-free, PETA Vegan (except for those containing honey or beeswax) and gluten-free.

Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is an immunological condition which affects 1 in 10 adults in Ireland. Skincare can be as complicated as you make it, but good skincare starts with just three simple steps: Cleanse, Hydrate and Protect. After that you can build in exfoliation, masques, serums and so on, according to your unique skincare needs. But if you don’t have the basics right, your skin will not be at its best.

Many factors, extrinsic and intrinsic, play a part in achieving and maintaining healthy skin. As the largest organ in the body, skin plays a key role in protecting us from micro-organisms, dehydration, ultraviolet light and mechanical damage. When the dermal barrier is compromised, it negatively impacts our general good health.
