Rugby legend Rory Best put his best foot forward for children with cancer today with support from Elave Skincare from Gardiner Family Apothecary.

Rory, pictured with Elave Skincare Advisor Karen Johnston, is undertaking a 180-mile walking challenge to support Cancer Fund for Children, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

“My family and friends will tell you that I’m not a fan of walking,” he said. “Walking 180 miles in nine days will be tough but nowhere near as tough as the challenges that families dealing with childhood cancer face.

“If you can, please donate to my challenge and cheer me on as I pass through your towns and villages.”

CFC are looking to raise €5m for a short break centre on the shores of Lough Corrib which is similar to Daisy Lodge, their centre in Co Down.

After setting off from Newcastle, the former Irish and British Lion will be joined by the Elave Team for Leg 3 of his journey across Co Mayo this Friday.

Joanna Gardiner, CEO of Gardiner Family Apothecary, said: “I can’t think of any cause more deserving than supporting children with cancer and their families.

“We are delighted to sponsor Leg 3 of this epic challenge and we will certainly be putting our best foot forward with Rory to help this very worthy cause in any way we can.”

Rory will pass through Counties Down, Armagh, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Sligo, and Mayo, taking in over 30 towns and villages along his epic journey.

Throughout his trek he will be joined by families affected by cancer, as well as some notable names from Irish & Ulster and entertainment.

These include Tommy Bowe, Jacob Stockdale, Tadhg Furlong, Rob Kearney, Robert Balacoune, Bundee Aki, Conor Murray and well-known tv chef and personality Neven Maguire.

For children with cancer, childhood can be devastated by months of chemotherapy sessions, hospital stays, and time away from their family and friends.

Cancer Fund for Children’s mission is to ensure children don’t have face this cancer journey alone and last year they provided emotional support to over 1,500 young people.

The charity’s services include restorative breaks at the Mourne Mountains. However, for every family the charity supports across Ireland there are another six they cannot accommodate - which is why they urgently need to build a second facility in Co Mayo.

Cancer Fund for Children’s CEO, Phil Alexander added: “We would like to wish Rory a massive, good luck as he steps up to this enormous challenge. The team at Cancer Fund for Children will be supporting him all the way.”

Some botanicals are particularly useful in combatting inflammatory conditions like eczema, rosacea, psoriasis and acne. They are rich in antioxidants which fight the free radicals in our environment which damage the dermis and cause signs of premature ageing, such as fine lines, wrinkles and sagging.
